WATCH

Giant sculptures, once-loved CDs and hundreds of empty water bottles – this is Leeroy New’s studio.

We caught up with Leeroy on two continents to find out more about his practice. He chats sci-fi aesthetics, Philippine traditions and consumerism as well as The Welcome sculpture Balete Spacecraft.

Plus watch Leeroy at work, as he transforms local discarded plastics into otherworldly creations.

Balete Spacecraft is in the Social from 11 to 19 November.

DO

Brighten up your midweek with an evening of music from indie folk singer-songwriter Evie Eve and Manchester selector DJ Duckdown.

Amelia Hall recommends:

I am looking forward to 100 Waving Kites – a project created by Get It Done. Hundreds of kites featuring self-portraits have been created by school children from Greater Manchester boroughs such as Rochdale, Salford, Tameside, Bury and Manchester. This visual arts installation is in the Hall Foyer and free to have a look at across the nine days. School children that created these kites are having a trip during The Welcome to see their artwork waving people into Aviva Studios.
