Ready to forge your own path? Get to grips with the foundations of freelancing.
Going your own way as freelancer can be scary but rewarding – opening up the freedom to manage your own time and work on projects that really matter to you. But with so much to consider, it can be tough to know where to start. This course is designed to cut through the noise and help you develop the essential skills and knowledge needed to successfully freelance in any industry.
Foundations in Freelance focuses on the key behaviours needed to help you thrive as a freelancer. Over six weeks, you’ll learn about:
- Critical and analytical thinking
- Problem solving
- Project management
- Personal brand and presentation
- Effective communication
- Social and professional support networks
- Wellness, resilience and mindset
- Managing finances
On top of introducing you to the core skills needed to become a full-time freelancer, this free 6-week course will also help you to:
- Establish habits and routines that support you
- Connect you with industry professionals freelancing across a range of industries via Q&A sessions and masterclasses
- Gain a new network of aspiring freelancer peers based in Greater Manchester

The course runs from Monday 20 March to Friday 28 April 2023.
Anyone living in Greater Manchester, aged 19+ and either currently unemployed, on Universal Credit or earning less than £20,888.
No previous experience is required. All you need is an interest in working behind the scenes in the creative industries.
We are especially keen to hear from those who are underrepresented in our sector. Anyone from Black, Asian and other ethnically diverse communities, as well as D/deaf and disabled people and applicants from low-income households.
This course is fully funded by Factory International. That’s right. It’s free. We’ll also cover your travel and lunch expenses and give you a training allowance.
There is no qualification attached to Foundations in Freelance.
