Portrait of Black Britain is a powerful photography exhibition documenting contemporary Black Britain, which returns to Manchester this October. We caught up with Cephas Williams to discuss the project, its evolution and his artistic journey.

Cephas Williams is the creator of 56 Black Men, Letter to Zion and the Black Network. Portrait of Black Britain is part of a project that will ultimately lead to Williams building a significant large-scale photographic archive of Black people living in the UK.

Portrait of Black Britain runs at Aviva Studios from 2 October to 1 November 2026. Find out more here.
