Manchester: Peripheral

Curated by Drew Hemment, the founder and CEO of FutureEverything (then Futuresonic), Manchester: Peripheral remixed and replayed the sounds of the city. The project’s focal point was an audiovisual installation in Piccadilly Gardens that mixed street musicians, local rappers, interviews with residents and even the ambient noise from school playgrounds and cricket matches – all selected through the votes of local communities in digital culture’s answer to The X-Factor. Manchester: Peripheral was part of MIF07’s Manchester Firsts strand, which showcased the dynamism of the local arts scene through a series of new and specially commissioned works.

Produced by Manchester International Festival. Supported by Arts Council England and the Museum of Science & Industry.
