The Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 inspired Ronke Jane Adelakun and Adeola Adelakun to listen more closely to the stories of Black people affected by racism. The Manchester-based sisters soon realised that more platforms were needed to tell such stories – and the result is the latest in MIF’s ongoing series of Festival in My House… And Yours.

Black Stories Matter is a short film centered on the everyday experiences faced by Black people today. Derived from real-life stories, the film is a captivating narrative that takes us on a journey through the funny, awkward and heartbreaking experiences of Black people. If history is written by the victors, then stories such as these must be loud enough to echo through its pages.

Premiering on Thursday 29 April, Black Stories Matter is the penultimate episode in our six-month series of micro-international festivals created from home by Greater Manchester artists. Watch live or catch up on demand any time after the premiere – always for free.
