Venue Information

There is a ramped entrance from the pavement outside the museum to the front door. There are lifts to all floors and level access to all public spaces, including galleries, the shop, café, toilets and other facilities.

Wheelchairs and a walking frame with wheels are available on site for visitors to use. Speak to a member of the Visitor Team at the reception desk if you would like to use one during your visit.

The Museum has a hearing loop fitted at the reception desk.

A quiet room is available on floor 1 next to the Egypt and Sudan gallery.

TOILETS

There are accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility on the ground floor next to the Main Hall.

ASSISTANCE DOGS

Guide and assistance animals – including assistance dogs in training – are welcome at the museum. The museum ask that they are identified by wearing a jacket, a harness, or a brightly coloured collar and lead during your visit. Water bowls for dogs are available in the café and bowls can be filled using the water fountain in the Welcome area – just ask and the Visitor Team will be happy to help.

From the stations you can take a bus or a short taxi ride to the Museum.

The museum is on the Oxford Road Cycleway, which features ‘Dutch-style’ cycle lanes. There are stands provided across the University of Manchester campus to which bicycles may be secured.

For University of Manchester staff and postgraduate students, there is a cycle hub for parking your bike securely on Bridgeford Street, next to the museum.

There are frequent bus services, travelling towards, away from and across the city centre, including: 15, 18, 41, 42, 42A, 42B, 43, 53, 111, 142, 143, 147, 191, 197, V1, V2.
