Based in the heart of Manchester, Aviva Studios is a new space for art, music and culture and the permanent home of Factory International and Manchester International Festival (MIF). We're currently recruiting for Neighbourhood Organisers to join our team.

The Neighbourhood Organiser programme is a paid opportunity that is supported by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. It has been designed to enhance our engagement with local communities throughout Greater Manchester.

Neighbourhood Organisers are valued members of our organisation, and we rely on them to let us know what's important to their communities. They help us communicate effectively with local organisations and residents about the exciting opportunities, shows and events we have going on at Factory International.

We are looking for inspirational residents from a variety of areas across Greater Manchester who are friendly, approachable and good communicators with an excellent knowledge of their local community.

What do Neighbourhood Organisers do?

As a Freelance Neighbourhood Organiser, you will work closely with members of Factory International’s Public Engagement team to:

  • Build relationships with individuals, organisations, and community groups in your local area, both in person and online.
  • Help us to encourage applications to our jobs, skills and training programmes and projects from a diverse range of people.
  • Distribute free and discounted tickets to people from your area who are new to Factory International.
  • Attend regular meetups in your area to network and inform your community of opportunities at Factory International and feedback to us what your community wants to get involved with and see from us.
  • Recommend local artists and events that you think we should know about.
  • Facilitate an exchange of knowledge about your community, highlighting what issues are affecting people.
  • With the support of our team, host small events in your community to engage people with the work we do.
  • Advise us on how we might develop programmes and campaigns relevant to you and your community.
  • Attend monthly meetings to discuss ideas and keep up to date on what we have going on in the organisation.
  • Attend meetings with our Audiences and Marketing team to offer feedback on our content and campaigns.


This is a paid freelance opportunity, so you must be eligible to work in the UK and be a resident in one of the priority areas.

You do not need to have worked in the arts before, but you will be passionate about the difference arts and culture can make in your neighbourhood.

  • Good organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and able to work independently
  • Good networks in your local community with the desire to expand your current networks
  • An understanding of the importance of equality and diversity

  • Have a basic understanding of IT systems Microsoft Teams/Outlook
  • Experience hosting local events


  • This is a freelance contract that will run from May 2024 to the end of January 2025.
  • The maximum fee for the contract is £2250. The fee includes working approximately 2 days a month over 9 months and attending 9 monthly meetings, 1 per month.
  • Each Neighbourhood Organiser monthly meeting will occur on the first Wednesday of the month from 6pm to 8pm at Aviva Studios, Water St, Manchester M3 4JQ.
  • The contracted days are flexible, so it will be up to you to choose the days you want to work in any given month.

If you are successful and offered the role, you will need to be available on Saturday 18 May from 10am to 4.30pm for an induction session at Aviva Studios, Water St, Manchester M3 4JQ.
