About

My Stomping Ground is a collaborative project between the WOW Foundation, Football Beyond Borders and photographer Alina Akbar, developed and delivered by Factory International’s Creative Learning Team.

With a brief set by Manchester-based photographer Alina Akbar, young people had the opportunity to learn and apply skills in photography, while reflecting on identity and self- expression. Over three weeks, Factory International and Football Beyond Borders worked with 170 young people at five schools on their partnership schools programmes (St Peter’s RC High School, Parrs Wood High School, Falinge Park High School, Levenshulme High School for Girls and Sale High School).

Alina Akbar

Alina Akbar is a visual artist and storyteller, working in film, photography and installation.

Her practice is rooted in the experience of both the personal and collective, and is frequently developed through conversation and collaboration. She is known for detangling the complexities of working class representation and issues of diversity as well as her cinematic eye for capturing raw reality intertwined with poetic narratives.

Akbar’s work occupies space in both physical and online environments, communicating in different ways to reach a range of audiences. Her work reflects the shift of what a moving image artist and photographer of today can look like.
