Benji Reid | Dream Space
In this episode of Dream Space podcast, award-winning photographer and pioneer of hip hop theatre Benji Reid imagines a meditative, womb-like space for healing.
With Gemma Cairney as host, we enter Benji’s dream space through the doors of an old children’s library. There is no gravity – we float through clouds, red trees and an Arizona sunset. Each tree contains the history of a soul. This is a space for death and rebirth.
Benji Reid explores themes include race, nationhood, gender mental health and Black masculinity. He has produced and performed over 30 works for international cultural institutions led by The National Theatre, Birmingham Rep, PS122 (New York) and Sydney Opera House. In MIF23's Find Your Eyes, Benji Reid combined photography, choreography and theatre to create a moving, visually striking meditation on his life and work.
