Rumbi Tauro
'I’m incredibly excited to be part of this programme. I feel like this is the perfect year for me to be mentored at the stage I’m at and to be receiving this support. I hope that these next few months are filled with many creative collaborations. From this I hope to strengthen existing creative networks and for doors of new opportunities to open wide.'

Rumbi’s soulful melodies have graced stages across the UK, leaving an indelible mark at iconic venues and festivals. It’s on stage where she shines, forging an intimate connection with her audiences.
Off stage, Rumbi can be found advocating for young people's access to the arts and culture. Rumbi facilitates singing and songwriting workshops within the North. Alongside this, she can be found hosting monthly live music events and radio shows.
J.Chambers
'I’m really happy to be chosen for Factory Sounds. It’s great to see a big space with lots of collaborators pouring into the local scene with programmes like this and their continued focus on booking local talent. Factory Sounds will help me extend my network both regionally and hopefully nationally, which will assist me with the finalising, marketing and roll out of my next body of work Homecoming.'
Shedding light on his lived experiences through his art, J.Chambers has always been more than a musician with his poetic expressions carrying an undercurrent of profound wisdom.
A turbulent journey of self-discovery, J's upbringing shaped his career, with his parents maintaining and nurturing the importance of staying connected to his Caribbean lineage, and prioritising black history in his education, which was absent in the British school system. This disconnect between the western islands of teaching and the emphasis on understanding his identity at home created the strong need for J's output to be political, fuelling his early days of 'boom-bap' hip hop.
After finding his true sound through experimenting with reggae, returning to his earliest musical context became the pivotal turning point in J's career, leading him to his most authentic sound to date, and inspiring his new project Homecoming.
Thraa
'It's a great honour to have been selected for Factory Sounds. I've never applied for funding before, application forms terrify me, but I found this one very accessible. Getting this funding has given me a massive confidence boost that I'm not just my day job! Not only will the funding go towards getting music project Thraa off the ground, but I’m also mostly looking forward to getting to know the people at Factory Sounds and hoping to get an insight into how to operate better as an artist' – Sally
After playing for many years as part of bigger bands, Andi and Sally of Thraa explore what it would be like to take instruments away, leaving two guitars and one vocalist. Working without the constrictions of a traditionally structured song, this duo improvise around meditative drones, combining Sunn 0))) and Body/Head influenced guitars with soaring vocals, capturing an organic sense of sound that has cavernous textures with minimalism at heart.
Saint Harmony
'I feel blessed to be able to be a part of such an amazing project coming from Factory International who’ve brought such a fresh energy to the creative space in Manchester. I’m excited to get stuck in and to give everything to this project that I’ve had on my heart for the past two years.'
Saint Harmony is a singer songwriter based in Manchester. Raised in a musical household, her connection to music started young, performing in a group with her siblings for many years and expressing her thoughts through poetry, theatre and songwriting.

CHARMS (aka Mama Char)

CHARMS is also the engine behind GALDEM REJOICE – a project that sets out to platform and uplift women within reggae and sound system culture by curating events and opportunities in celebration of International Women’s Day.
STEAM Radio
STEAM Radio started remotely in 2020 to help people feel connected during lockdown. Since then, they’ve grown into the real world, and now operate from a studio above the Old Abbey Taphouse in Hulme, which they are in the process of refurbishing. They provide a centre for a unique community to form around, bringing people together who may not have crossed paths otherwise.
STEAM currently has 80 regular hosts, spanning a massive range of genres and experience levels – from total beginners to touring DJs. They bridge this gap by providing opportunities for emerging hosts to hone their skills, and for emerging artists to platform their music. Their residents are also primarily based in Manchester, but some send in shows from other UK cities and others have filled guest slots from as far as Jakarta and Rio. STEAM Radio has a global outlook with Manchester at its core.
