OGR Torino announces an exciting new relationship with Manchester International Festival (MIF) with ∑(No,12k,Lg,17Ogr) New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes.. This remarkable project, seen at MIF this summer, will have its Italian premiere at OGR.

New Order will take over OGR for a special show, created in collaboration with two close associates: visual artist Liam Gillick, who has previously presented solo exhibitions at venues such as Tate Britain and MoMA in New York, and who has co-curated the inaugural exhibition of OGR, Like a Moth to a Flame, and composer-arranger Joe Duddell.

For New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes…, the group deconstructed, rethought and rebuilt a wealth of material from throughout their career: familiar and obscure, old and new. To perform it live, they will be joined by a 12-strong synthesizer ensemble. Inspired by this reinvention of the band’s catalogue, Liam Gillick will transform OGR into an immersive environment, creating a stage set that reacts dynamically to the music.

About OGR:
OGR Torino is a brand-new 20,000 square meter Innovation Hub + Arts Center opening in the city of Turin on September 30th, 2017. It is a project aimed at regenerating and reopening the former Officine Grandi Riparazioni, a site built between 1885 and 1895, once dedicated to the maintenance of railway vehicles and now committed to the promotion of culture and technological innovation in the fields of visual and performing arts. The Visual Arts Program will be officially inaugurated by the wide-ranging survey exhibition Like a Moth to a Flame, curated by Tom Eccles and Mark Rappolt with Liam Gillick. Following Like a Moth to a Flame, in 2018 OGR will present a series of site-specific solo exhibitions by internationally renowned artists including Tino Sehgal (curated by Luca Cerizza), Susan Hiller (curated by Barbara Casavecchia), and Mike Nelson. OGR will also host a series of Performing Arts events including music shows by electronic music pioneers such as Giorgio Moroder (in September 2017) and Kraftwerk (in November 2017).

Over the last ten years, MIF has worked closely with other cultural organisations around the world, collaborating financially and creatively to make ambitious, international projects possible and create opportunities for productions to be seen internationally. These collaborations include Tree of Codes (Wayne McGregor/Olafur Eliasson/Jamie xx) co-commmissioned with Park Avenue Armory in New York, FAENA ART in Miami, Paris Opera Ballet, Sadler’s Wells in London and European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017, and now touring to Melbourne Festival; and The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic created with Marina Abramovic herself, director Robert Wilson and with music by Anonhi.

Since the first Festival in 2007, MIF has collaborated with 50 commissioning partners on 47 different shows, which have travelled as far afield as Los Angeles, Shanghai and Abu Dhabi. Earlier this year, MIF was confirmed as the operator of The Factory, a new cultural centre in Manchester due to open in 2020. OGR and MIF share similar artistic ambitions; it’s also possible to draw creative and social parallels between two great post-industrial cities that could fuel their work together in the future.
