Listen to The World Was Once All Miracle on BBC Radio 3

We are thrilled to have another chance to listen to Raymond Yiu’s wonderful The World was Once All Miracle which was recorded at MIF17.

For MIF17, acclaimed composer Raymond Yiu set text from six Anthony Burgess poems into The World Was Once All Miracle, a major symphonic song cycle given its world premiere by brilliant baritone Roderick Williams and the BBC Philharmonic. The concert also featured the first European performance of Burgess’s own Symphony in C, along with a work by a composer whose music has influenced Yiu, Burgess and every other symphonist of the last two centuries: Beethoven’s Symphony No.8.

On Wed 11 Oct it was broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s ‘Afternoon Concert’ with Tom Redmond presenting recordings from the BBC Philharmonic, and you can listen to the whole show on iPlayer Radio here.

We caught up with Raymond Yiu a little while back to talk about The World Was Once All Miracle, a new song cycle inspired by the work of Anthony Burgess and marking 100 years since his birth. Have a watch of the video below to find out about what inspired Raymond in this project.
