Want to pitch an idea?
We meet twice a month to discuss ideas for our future programme. While there are a lot more proposals than we can support, we review every proposal that meets our guidelines for ambitious new work.
If we feel a project might be right for us we’ll meet with you to discuss next steps, such as a research and development (R&D) period. It's great if proposals involve collaborations between a group of artists, but if you are looking for a team to help develop your idea, we may also be able to help with that.
Don't write a complicated proposal – just send us the key info about your ideas, what you've done in the past, and how you plan to develop the idea.
For writers interested in our artistic programme*, we don't read full scripts, but if you want to include a few sample pages with your proposal, that will help us to get a sense of your work.
Proposals should be send to interest@factoryinternational.org. We will aim to get back to you within 8 weeks to let you know whether your proposal meets our key criteria and will be taken to our Curatorial Group for further review.
*For editorial writers, opportunities to write for our online platform Factory+ are on a callout and commissioning basis, rather than open submissions. Keep an eye out on our socials and artist development webpages for future opportunities or drop us a line on editorial@factoryinternational.org with a link to your portfolio to get on our radar for commissioning.
What kind of projects are we looking for?
Original – bold, new ideas that have never been seen or done before.
Large-scale – to maximise the possibilities of our new purpose-built cultural space.
Innovative – from cutting-edge technologies to new ways of thinking about sustainability and access.
Interdisciplinary – to blur boundaries between art forms and create new possibilities.
International – to bring the best new work from around the world to Manchester.
Manchester-based – to showcase the breadth of talent across Greater Manchester.
Collaborative – to engage our local communities and help train the next generation of talent.
By Global Majority artists – to reflect the diversity of our city and its many creative communities.
