This one-off show at the Ritz was designed to launch Perverted by Language, a book of short stories inspired by The Fall – but, perhaps inevitably, Mark E Smith and his cohorts stole the show from writers Stewart Lee, Rebecca Ray and Andrew Holmes, who each read their stories before a typically compelling set from Manchester’s most uncompromising band.
