Give your old electronics and clothing a new life with a free, drop-in repair session
Join the fight against e-waste with our technology themed International Repair Day – inspired by our opening show Free Your Mind.
We’re bringing the worldwide Repair Café movement to Manchester. Learn all about e-waste, how to tackle it – and save some money along the way.
International Repair Day brings together making and mending space Boiler House, sustainable fashion group Stitched Up, Levenshulme and Boothstown Repair Cafés, supported by In Our Nature. We’re also welcoming London-based Restart Project who are here to answer your burning repair questions, and to launch a new UK Declaration of Reuse and Repair.
Just drop by Aviva Studios with your old electronics and clothes, and let our local experts guide you through the repair process, including how to set up a Repair Café in your neighbourhood.
For any electronic items that are beyond help, Hubbub are on hand to dispose of them sustainably. We’re also joined by the Renew Hub, the unique project which creates value from waste to benefit Greater Manchester. Enjoy a demonstration and learn how they upcycle furniture which people donate at recycling centres.
It's time to dig out those broken items just waiting to be thrown away. International Repair Day is their time to shine.
Please note that, depending on the number of people attending the event, your item may not get repaired. You are welcome to take it to one of the four Repair Cafés (linked above) throughout the Autumn.

The event takes place in The Social at Aviva Studios. The full address of the venue is Aviva Studios, Water Street, Manchester, M3 4JQ and what3words ischop.feeds.chase.
Aviva Studios is a new purpose-built cultural space in the heart of Manchester. The entrance to our building is through double glass doors. There are automatic doors at both entrances.
Once inside, there is step-free access to all areas of the venue. You will arrive into the Social, a large public space where there are a range of seats (including those with arms), a bar and toilets (including accessible toilets).
The bars in the Social and Hall Foyer have lowered accessible service points.
The Hall entrance is by lift, escalator or stairs from one side of the Social beside the brick arches.
International Repair Day takes place in The Social at Aviva Studios. The event will be set up as a drop-in workshop, with people who have something to repair being given a ticket which is their queue allocation.
Other elements will be information stands where people will be standing to provide information on different topics.
There will be seating available
The International Repair Day starts at 11am and runs until 1pm.
The Social is open to the public from 10am so it will be possible to come into the space a little earlier than the event start time
Accessible toilets are available at Aviva Studios.
There are toilets, including accessible toilets, in the brick arches at the back of the Social through the big silver doors.
The toilets are gender neutral which means you can use whichever arch entrance you want.
The accessible cubicles are in the same room as the standard cubicles. The accessible cubicles also have washbasins in them. The other handwashing facilities are shared by everyone.
If you need to bring an assistance dog to this event, please contact access@factoryinternational.org
