Laurie Anderson, iconic American performance artist, met Wayne McGregor, the pioneering British choreographer, for the first time. For more than 30 years, Anderson has used cutting-edge technology to tell profound and ancient human stories, while McGregor (an MIF15 artist) has created radical inter-disciplinary collaborations with neuroscientists and heart-imaging specialists.

Birgitta Jónsdóttir, an Icelandic poet-turned-activist who co-founded the Pirate Party in 2012, invited us to pay tribute to her friend, Chelsea Manning. Jónsdóttir’s Pirate Party came third in Iceland’s elections last year, and are now mandated to put together a majority coalition in the country’s parliament.

Nina Freeman, a video game designer and the creator of Lost Memories Dot Net for MIF17, took us on a digital tour through sex, relationships and gender identity.

Hannah Devlin, The Guardian’s Science Correspondent, was joined by experts including Professor Tony Prescott (Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Sheffield, Director of Sheffield Robotics), Professor Joanna Bryson (University of Bath) and Professor Björn Schuller (Imperial College London) for a Guardian Live panel debate that asked ‘How Will Artificial Intelligence Change the World?’
