Factory International commissions new work for its home venue Aviva Studios, for the bi-annual Manchester International Festival, for online digital or broadcast projects, and for international touring around the globe. This new work spans the entire spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture.

As such, we do not have a standard method for casting our productions and each casting process will be designed around the needs of the production. However, we ask our artists to consider the following when casting their projects:

  • We ask that casting on FI productions and co-productions authentically reflects the diversity of the city of Manchester and the wider population.
  • We expect those casting our productions to undertake proper engagement with the widest possible community of actors and performers.
  • We are committed to ensuring equal opportunities for all performers regardless of ethnicity, race, sex, gender, sexuality, age, physical ability, faith, economic background and educational or training background.
  • Alongside international artists we regularly bring to Manchester, we encourage artists to work with actors from the North West wherever appropriate.
  • As an interdisciplinary producing organisation, we support artists to think outside of the field in which they currently work and to explore artists from other performance backgrounds.

Where applicable and/or appropriate, we also make the following commitments:

- We will hold auditions in Manchester alongside other locations to increase opportunities for North West performers.

- We will create safe and supportive casting environments, with two people from the creative, casting or producing present for any audition or meeting.

- We will support access needs for auditions, such as providing BSL interpreters for D/deaf performers and holding auditions in accessible venues.

- We will give suitable notice of any audition, with details of what to expect and prepare, and will guarantee a timely response whatever the outcome.
