We’re looking for dancers to work on an upcoming Factory International production.

About the artist and opportunity

Blackhaine is a British contemporary artist whose multimedia work brings together a mix of voice, movement and scenography, characterised by a radical approach to drill and noise music. His work extends to choreography, immersive audiovisual installation and creative direction for globally renowned musicians.

We’re looking for contemporary dancers to work on a a new production by Blackhaine culminating in Summer 2025. The movement will be devised by the dancers, led by Blackhaine.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for talented dancers with a high level of improvisational ability and a strong sense of musicality. You’ll need to have a great stage presence, excellent choreographic execution, the ability to adapt quickly and to communicate emotion through your performance. Confidence using speech in performance would be beneficial.

The company will have a focus on diversity in background and performance style - we welcome applicants who specialise in any forms of dance, whether self-taught or professionally trained. We are particularly interested in dancers from the North of England.

If this sounds like you, we’d love for you to come along to a workshop audition in Manchester. 

Please note that applicants must be aged 18+ at the time of the audition.

  • Experienced dancers in any form or style
  • High-level skills and confidence in improvisation
  • Ability to learn choreography promptly
  • An understanding and ability to convey emotion through movement

You will need to upload a video providing a flavour of your movement, between 90 seconds and 4 minutes in length. Please ensure the video is filmed full length with a fixed camera.

Key information

This is a paid opportunity. We are still finalising the fees for the project, though the confirmed fee will be outlined in the offer for each role, prior to acceptance.

This is a part time engagement with 6 weeks of rehearsals taking place between January and June 2025, followed by performance dates in July 2025.

Rehearsals and Performances will take place in Manchester.

Please note that throughout this production you’ll be working:

  • In a dark warehouse environment and haze with flashing lights
  • Around a significantly loud soundscape
  • As part of an ensemble/group

Auditions

Auditions will take place in central Manchester (venue TBC), on:

Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Monday 9 December 2024

Applications will be assessed by Blackhaine and the Factory International Team. Successful applicants will be invited to the auditions no later than Monday 2nd December 2024. More information about the auditions will be provided at this stage.
